Experience
In 1977 Peter joined the Valuation Department at the London Borough of Kingston upon Thames and a year later moved to Herring Son & Daw in the offices department. He qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1980 and was appointed Director on the main board in 1986. In 1990, Peter became a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
Throughout his career at Herring Son & Daw, Peter was responsible for building the client base and establishing a very profitable division of the company. He advised both occupiers and developers/investors on all aspects relating to the office sector, i.e. acquisitions and disposals, landlord and tenant matters, development and strategic property consultancy.
Peter was a founding partner of HMC and has been involved in a number of high profile transactions. These include the redevelopment of the National Farmers’ Union headquarters in Knightsbridge and the purchase (and subsequent sale and lease back) of a 55,000 sq ft headquarters in Victoria for Premier Oil plc. Peter also advised Evelyn Estate on the restructure of its property interests on the Rathbone Place/Gresse Street Estate and the terms of a joint venture agreement with Derwent London plc, facilitating the construction of a new 50,000 sq ft office building and refurbishment of three older buildings. He is also experienced in landlord and tenant disputes and is on the RICS panel of approved Arbitrators and Independent Surveyors receiving regular appointments from the President of the RICS to act as Arbitrator or Expert in rent review disputes.
General
Peter is married with two children and occasionally finds time to dust off his lycra for peace and quiet in the Surrey Hills.
